About the School
The school is nestled in the quiet neighborhood of the College Greens and Glenbrook areas of Sacramento, Bancroft Elementary School offers classes for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten through sixth grade students. We have a large, beautiful campus with flower gardens, park areas with picnic tables, over 80 trees, and three large playground structures. Our vision is that "At Bancroft, students are productive, respectful citizens who have skills, knowledge, and continuously reflect on improvement". Our vision drives on what how we want our student to gain through their years at the school. We accomplish this by providing instruction in Common Core Standards in all curricular areas. Our instructional practices include hands-on activities that add excitement to the learning process, building upon each child's background knowledge and to foster inquiry about their learning. Beyond the basics, Bancroft Elementary offers opportunities for children to develop lifelong skills through a variety of activities and programs. This includes a full physical education program, maker space room, and an exemplary library. We also a 1:1 laptop for use in classrooms. Bancroft has a Schoolyard Habitat that works as an outdoor classroom to educate our students on plants native to California. The City of Sacramento provides their “4th R” before and after-school childcare program, in addition to the after-school ASES education and enrichment program on our campus. We are also a Project Lead the Way school, in which we incorporate Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The arts also play a major role in our overall school environment, including art docents to teach art lesson and the annual talent show.

Who was Hubert Bancroft?
Historian and writer, Hubert Bancroft’s finished work on the history of the Pacific coast consisted of 39 volumes and covered Alaska to Panama. His collection of research is the basis for UC Berkeley Bancroft Library, one of the greatest research centers in the West.
The school
Looking around the campus today, it is nice to know that much has changed, yet much has remained the same. The 50-year old buildings are still strong and got a new coat of paint just a couple of years ago.
Since the original construction, air conditioning was added, telephones became standard in every room and the multipurpose room even got new curtains to replace the orange, multicolored favorites that adorned the stage for many years.
The grounds are lovingly coordinated and maintained by none other than Bancroft’s Garden Angel, Kelly O’Hagan. Kelly’s attention to detail, countless hours of work herself, coordinating classroom gardens, neighborhood and scout volunteers, has helped Bancroft blossom (pun intended) into a place to be proud of!
